Please join us tomorrow, January 9th, at noon, to learn about some of the issues that the 2024 legislature will be taking on. Register for our “kick-off” by clicking here.

The 2024 session starts Wednesday at noon. That is when all of the committee memberships and meeting times will be announced. As with last year, we expect that the Virginia General Assembly will meet in person and will give the public the option to participate either in person or virtually. However, the legislature is in a brand-new building this year – we expect there to be lots of technical glitches as they settle into the new space. If they are considering something truly important to you, it is best to be there in person!

Although meetings have not yet been announced, we expect that the House Committee on Health, Welfare, and Institutions will meet on Thursday morning and that the Senate Committee on Health and Education will meet on Thursday morning as well. Check out the official meeting calendar here to be sure.

Our mission is to advance independence, choice, and self-determination; protect legal, human, and civil rights; and eliminate abuse, neglect, and discrimination of people with disabilities through zealous and uncompromising legal advocacy and representation. We are available to educate policymakers about the potential impact of legislative proposals. Please let us know of any legislative proposals or budget issues that you think we should be following. Contact us at info@dlcv.org or by calling 1-800-552-3962 or 1-804-225-2042.

We will post regular updates on developments in the legislature on our website, on Facebook, and X…. So, stay tuned!
