Disturbing Findings at Eastern State Hospital
The disAbility Law Center of Virginia today raised concerns about continuing and serious risk of harm to residents of the Hancock Geriatric Treatment Center at Eastern State Hospital.
In a letter to Commissioner Stewart, of the Department Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, the dLCV reviewed and summarized alarming findings from a recent federal survey of the facility, and added that the dLCV’s own recent observations supported that the facility continues to violate resident rights and that residents are at risk of serious harm.
The disAbility Law Center of Virginia is a private nonprofit organization and is the state’s independent watchdog on behalf of people with disabilities. The dLCV advocates for all people with disabilities to be free from abuse, neglect and discrimination.
